Okay, so here's the deali-o:
I got talked into showing this kid around school today as he has applied to this establishment and just moved in from Sante Fe. So I've been doing so and he's been following me around all day, except for the hour where he was sitting with Fred in Physics. So it's my free hour, right? And I'm like "Okay... What do you want to do?" And he wants to get a better view of the math-n-science departments because he's a really super-smart person like that. I ask the counselor if this would be kosher and he says that, yes, it would be, so I figure it's all fine and dandy and no one will come to any harm.
I figured WRONG.
Anyway, we head down to the Pre-Calc class that's going on at this hour and I notice that KThom's teaching. He's a teacher. I take nothing of this. So I walk in and very meekly approach him (completely oblivious to the strange flickering flames in his eyes) and explain to him the situation:
Kiri: (being her usual friendly, polite self) So I was just wondering if it would be all-right if he sat in on the rest of your class!
KThom: ...
Kiri: ...Just in the back, you know.
KThom: ...
Kiri: ...The quiet back of the room?
KThom: ...
Kiri: ...The quiet, unobtrusive back of the room?
KThom: ...
Kiri: ...Please?
KThom: Okay.
Kiri: (big, happy grin)
KThom: (flames! flames!) But that was a little disruptive.
Kiri: (burning! burning!) Oh. Okay. sorry.
Jeremiah Chrismukkah, it was scary. I'd never spoken to this man in my life. I didn't even know until about three days ago what the elusive KThom's ethnic background was! I didn't know until about two days ago that the elusive KThom was the same strangely misplaced man as the man I just spoke to. He's a lot more intimidating than he looks.
And that whole exchange definitely had the ridiculous cartoon appearance of this gigantic tall guy towering over the little tiny munchkin. Jesus. Not only am I really short, but he's really tall. ...To me. ...Probably not to anyone else.
I'll have to ask Laura if she found it as amusing as I found it terrifying. I couldn't tell if she was giving an "Oh my God, Kiri, you're so dumb" look or an "Oh my God, Kiri, that was ridiculously hillarious" look. ^_^
