today i'm hearing: anything that will get millie out of my head
today i'm thinking: i hope tonight is better than last night

I think I'll go to graduate school. I know I was musing about the idea last post, but there's really no harm in going, is there? Of course, I'm pretty sure I won't end up working in theatre the rest of my life, but I kind of want to learn more about it. And I kind of don't want to work any sooner than I have to. So if I go to graduate school and get a fellowship and learn to be thrifty, I'll have some sense of accomplishment. And I like feeling accomplished. It's a nice thing to feel. On this same vein, I think I know where I want to go. And since I'm rocking out my undergraduate so well (read as: not having to pay a dime except for books and medical stuff), I think I'll go all out with graduate school.
And by 'all out', I mean Yale.
I want to go for stage management. Apparently, few schools offer a stage management MFA. Thus far, I've found programmes at six institutions in the U.S.: University of Alabama (too many memories), University of California at San Diego (cool, but terrifying), University of Delaware (first state, anyone?), University of Iowa (which my father has asked me to apply to), Virginia Tech (...yeah.) and...Yale. Well, if you're going to go east coast, you might as well try for the big leagues. And how cool would it be to go to Yale? Pretty fucking cool, my friends. Plus, going to Yale for theatre is kind of an ultimate spit in the face to all those preppy Ivy-Leaguers. And seeing how I have no loans to worry about yet, I'm ahead of the game expense wise. So if I could go and get a fellowship, I don't have to pay for tuition. I could then take out loans for an apartment (approximately the size of a dime) and use public transport and/or my new 26" Schwinn Ranger Mountain Bike (tm) to get to class and such. I think this plan could work famously.
Plus, I got a 'Go for it' from Da and a rather sardonic 'Good Luck' from Randy. This is all the encouragement I need.
...I also made a point of telling Da I'd need more jumpers and polo shirts if I got in. This was duly noted by him. Perhaps I should add khakis and white boaters to this list. I'm all-ready pretty pretentious with my Mac. Just have to solidify the image.
And, of course, this expensive Ivy League education will all be for naught once I move to the slums of Chicago and open up a tea shop.
