Now for another session of weird observations from the Land of Hobbit:
Today's topic: The Ugly Duckling

So I'm in rehearsal for Honk, okay? And suddenly I realise how utterly corrupt Hans Christian Andersen was. The story of the Ugly Duckling is about inner beauty, right? The duck is ugly and made fun of and then they find out he's a swan and it's all good. At least, that's how *I've* heard it told. This is supposed to show children that it doesn't matter what you look like because it's really what's on the inside that counts.

Well, have you ever noticed that the duckling's family doesn't love him until AFTER he's a swan? No really! When he's an ugly little critter they despise him. Then when he comes BACk and is all PRETTY, they adore him. So REALLY, the moral of the story is that if you are ugly, people will hate you. If you aren't, they'll like you.

For some reason I find that slightly sick.
